The Lantern Car
Some trains carry light instead of cargo
The Railway has many kinds of trains. Cargo trains carry packages between nodes. Signal trains carry data. But there is one train that carries neither — the Lantern Car. It runs at the edge of the grid, where the signal is weakest, and its job is to keep the dark parts of the Railway lit. Heathcliff finds the Lantern Car's schedule. It passed Node 7 exactly when Spike went quiet.
